- Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law: Its broad mission is “We strive to uphold the values of democracy. We stand for equal justice and the rule of law. We work to craft and advance reforms that will make American democracy work, for all.” One of its key program areas is combatting voter suppression: “Vote suppression has a long and ugly history in the U.S., and over the last two decades, it has resurfaced with a vengeance. Through research, lawsuits, and advocacy, the Brennan Center is fighting vote suppression on every front.” See their video: “Election Officials Are Under Attack”. See their “Voting Rights Litigation Tracker 2021”.
- DSCC Voter Protection and Legal Defense Fund is the legal arm of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), and fights against efforts to limit or deny voting rights in battleground states. The Fund is used for: 1) litigation challenging laws that restrict voting rights and litigation to help expand voting access; 2) post-election programs to chase and cure provisional ballots and absentee ballots, including voter protection staff to run these programs; 3) contested elections including recounts, audits, and post-election litigation; 4) FEC complaints.
- Fair Fight and Fair Fight Action (joint website): Founded by Stacey Abrams. “Fair Fight PAC has initiated programs to support voter protection programs at state parties around the country and is engaging in partnerships to support and elect pro-voting rights, progressive leaders.” “Fair Fight Action was founded to organize collective efforts to expose, mitigate, and reverse voter suppression.” Fair Fight co-runs (with America Votes) the voter protection donor pool nationally, and spearheads federal & state litigation. See video: “Fair Fight Action - The New Georgia”. See Fair Fight Action’s lawsuit against voter suppression here, and Fair Fight PAC’s lawsuit against voter suppression here.
- Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law manages the legal side of the nonpartisan Election Protection Coalition, a network of more than 300 national, state & local coalition partners including over 100 law firms and thousands of trained legal volunteers. (The coalition’s grassroots side is managed by Common Cause.) The coalition monitors elections and via its hotline fields calls from people trying to find voting sites, reporting voter suppression and more. The coalition and Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law have filed many voter rights lawsuits during 2020-21, including these.
